"The Body Never Lies." Hello Friends, What we consider “normal” is actually toxic. While our health system has made many important advancements, the statistical rise in metabolic, psychological and pain disorders indicates a systemic failure of our current medical model to promote genuine well-being. As of 2023, 76.4% of adults in the U.S. reported living with one or more chronic conditions. This number has risen steadily over the past twenty years. These data call into question the rigid separation between mental and physical health. One mechanism where we see this connection is mediated through the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) Axis. The twin foundational stressors of social rejection and suppression of authenticity cause the release of cortisol and adrenaline. For most of us, these stressors have been persistent parts of our lives. The resulting allostatic load leads directly to systemic inflammation, immune malfunction and connective tissue degradation. But why are these stressors so consistent and unavoidable? Trauma is certainly part of the answer. Whether it comes from a single significant event or many, smaller events taking place over a long period, the resulting injury creates a split within oneself. Whether we are conscious of it or not, we constantly protect the injured part of ourselves. What we seek, we often find. Thus, we tend to perceive threats everywhere we look. Here are a few examples of that protectionism that you might recognize:
Often these challenges reveal themselves to us during life transitions such as retirement, career change, or stepping into the unknown. Without support, it’s easy to get stuck in old conditioning. But what if the tension or anxiety you feel isn’t a sign of brokenness? What if it’s an invitation to explore your inner world and release the burdens holding you back from your next chapter? If this reflects where you’re at, consider joining my new coaching group. It’s called The Way Through. It’ll be an intimate, exploratory container to help you heal and bring more of yourself into the world. We’re on this journey together, Gabriel The Way ThroughExperiential Small Group for Navigating Transitions with Soul6 weeks starting Thursday, April 30 | 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM Over the years, I’ve coached many high-achievers who carry a heavy, silent load of pain and tension. Paradoxically, this weight often becomes most felt during transitions—after retiring, leaving a long-held position, or stepping into the unknown. The themes included in this program represent the psycho-spiritual challenges that often manifest more physically as chronic pain, fatigue, anxiety or illness. You might be realizing that your old way of operating is causing pain, or that what once served you now feels like a heavy weight. Without support, it’s easy to get stuck in old conditioning. But what if the tension or anxiety you feel isn’t a sign of brokenness? What if it’s an invitation to explore your inner world and release the burdens holding you back from your next chapter? The world is changing fast, and it requires us to show up as our full selves—not just the productive versions of ourselves. If you resonate with this, I invite you to join me and a small, supportive community for a journey into what’s next. This is for you if:

Move Heal Awaken Newsletter Gabriel Shaw “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” — Lao Tzu Hello friends, Almost everyone who comes to my Tai Chi classes has heard about the health benefits. But it’s rare for anyone, even the average instructor, to point to specifics. General claims of health end up sounding either “woo-woo”, unsubstantiated or attributable to any form of exercise. To the contrary, a growing body of clinic research on Tai Chi represents a unique convergence...
Move Heal Awaken Newsletter Gabriel Shaw “Use the mind to move the energy... Use the energy to move the body,” — Yang Chengfu Hello friends, We live in a world of dualities and separations. The disconnection between mind and body, self and other, ancient and modern, art and science, etc. seems less like a perspective, and more the way it is. This foundation is reaffirmed by the very institutions whose results also challenge it. Most meditators focus on the mind. Physiology and psychology are...
Move Heal Awaken Newsletter Gabriel Shaw “The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear.” — Rumi Hello friends, While there is growing awareness of the effect of trauma on our health, I believe this explanation leaves out an equally important factor: our cultural stories. The “stories” I’m referring to here are the baggage that most of us grow up so entrenched in that we may hardly notice them anymore. These burdens often come from our parents, teachers and authority figures....
