“Just as surely as distress must follow self-deceit, healing must follow self-honesty.” Hello friends, Today I wanted to share a reflection that came out of last month's workshop for the members of my Embodied Integration program. We were exploring what it actually feels like to "come together" as a whole human, rather than living as a collection of fragmented roles. I found the conversation so good I had to share it with you! Please enjoy the workshop replay via the link below. The Cost of Separation In our modern Western culture, we’ve inherited a very isolating view of the self. We’re taught to see ourselves as solo operators. As islands of "me" trying to navigate a sea of "everything else. But what I’ve found is that the “island” is really more like a garden, with many different parts and deeply embedded into the local ecosystem. And here’s the truth: any part of our “selves” (or our garden) we cannot accept, we are contributing to separation. When we push away our pain, judge our "laziness," or ignore our body's physical whispers, we create an internal rift. The friction of that inner conflict is what we often experience as "stuck energy" or persistent overwhelm. Embodied Integration isn't a self-improvement project to make you "better." It is the courageous act of living more of who you already are. An Expanded View of “Self” A healthy identity isn't just about what’s happening inside your skin (or head). To be truly integrated, we have to widen our lens to include the family, community, earth and spirit. When we bring these pieces together, we stop trying to "fix" a broken machine and start remembering a whole, sacred architecture. If you’re feeling scattered or like you're only living a "fraction" of your life, I invite you to watch the session. We dive into the physical movements and the mental re-framing that help move us from internal conflict to a coherent flow. Click below to watch the workshop replay. Move Heal Awaken Newsletter Gabriel Shaw “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” — Lao Tzu Hello friends, Almost everyone who comes to my Tai Chi classes has heard about the health benefits. But it’s rare for anyone, even the average instructor, to point to specifics. General claims of health end up sounding either “woo-woo”, unsubstantiated or attributable to any form of exercise. To the contrary, a growing body of clinic research on Tai Chi represents a unique convergence...
Move Heal Awaken Newsletter Gabriel Shaw “Use the mind to move the energy... Use the energy to move the body,” — Yang Chengfu Hello friends, We live in a world of dualities and separations. The disconnection between mind and body, self and other, ancient and modern, art and science, etc. seems less like a perspective, and more the way it is. This foundation is reaffirmed by the very institutions whose results also challenge it. Most meditators focus on the mind. Physiology and psychology are...
Move Heal Awaken Newsletter Gabriel Shaw “The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear.” — Rumi Hello friends, While there is growing awareness of the effect of trauma on our health, I believe this explanation leaves out an equally important factor: our cultural stories. The “stories” I’m referring to here are the baggage that most of us grow up so entrenched in that we may hardly notice them anymore. These burdens often come from our parents, teachers and authority figures....
